How to Fix a Skoda Octavia Key Not Detected
When I attempt to start my car, it just clicks and displays the message "key not detected". Is there something wrong with my key fob?
The brand new OCTAVIA iV as well as the electric ENYAQ come with a smart security feature that guards against signal amplification. To make sure the key is present the following conditions must be fulfilled.
1. Check the battery
The battery in the key is most likely to be the reason behind your car not starting. The battery inside the key fob will eventually drain, as it does in your phone or digital camera. The simplest solution is to replace your battery. If this doesn't work then the next step is to reprogramme the key. To accomplish this, turn on the ignition, and then put the key inside the ignition. Press the unlock button on the remote control two times, with a 1-second gap between each press. Repeat this procedure for the number of remotes you want to program (up to 4 remotes).).
You may also change the circuit board inside the key. It can be costly, but it could solve the problem. This method isn't 100% guaranteed to work as it is dependent on a variety of variables.
A key fob that wasn't authenticated is a different possibility. This could be due to a variety of reasons, including someone else nearby was pressing their own button, or another device sent a signal simultaneously or the key was protected, etc. This is especially true when the vehicle has recently been reprogrammed, or changed to a new key.
In modern cars, such as the Octavia VRS and ENYAQ iV, there is no requirement to press the key fob button. when the key is within the range of the antennas (located in the door handles) the car automatically unlocks. The system is designed in this in order to ensure that only the owner has the right to drive the vehicle. It also reduces the possibility of the car being snatched by a thief. However, it is still recommended to lock the car by hand using a key. There is a security mechanism that prevents the car from starting if the key is not in your pocket.
2. Check the key
If a key fob isn't recognized by the car, it's most likely to be due to a problem with the key itself. In some cases, this can be fixed by replacing the battery however in other instances, the buttons or circuits on the key could be damaged. In this case, the key will need to be replaced.
Modern keys do not have any mechanical lock cylinders and are all controlled electronically. The system operates as follows when keys are pressed against the handle (or in the boot lock button that is only available on the latest models) it sends an electronic signal to the car, which then activates the special antennas in the front doors. The antennas scan the area around the vehicle for the key signal and, as soon as they spot one, they contact the car. This is how the doors unlock and, if the system is configured, the "welcome light" is turned on.
If the key isn't detected and is not recognized, the message "key not recognized" will be displayed on the infotainment display. This could be caused by a number of reasons, such as another person pressing the key simultaneously or a mobile transmitting an alert, or the key being partially covered.
Contact an auto elec locksmith if you're having problems with your skoda remote not being recognized. They are experts in repair or reprogramming these kinds of remote controls, and can often fix the problem without going to the dealer. 3. Check the ignition
If your key fob does not work, there could be a problem with the ignition. You'll require a new key fob if this is the cause. The good news is that you can get one fairly cheaply from dealers. It will take a while. In the meantime, you'll need to make sure that the key is inserted correctly and is secured securely.
If you have the key fob inside the car then turn it a few times. If the key won't turn it could be stuck in the ignition barrel. It could also be that there's a piece or metal in the steering or ignition barrel lock. If you don't have a backup key, you could try to manually unlock the door by pushing the lock button on the inside of the handle. This will give you a chance to start the engine and return to the road without worrying about finding an locksmith.

The most recent version of keyless locking - found in vehicles like the fourth-generation OCTAVIA and the ENYAQ IV - eliminates this trigger by scanning the surroundings by using the antennas that are located on the front doors while the driver is in a seated position. If the car recognizes the correct key, the doors are opened and the welcome lights turn on. This function only works if all three conditions are met. The driver's seat must be occupied, and the seat belt is fastened as well as the brakes applied. If one of these conditions is not met, the system will not be able detect the key and the engine will not start. The "key not recognized" warning light will remain on your dashboard.
4. Check the door locks
If the car isn't opening after pressing the unlock button, it's probably time to check the locks. Remove the plastic covering of the door handle by using a thin edge like using a screwdriver. Then insert the key and turn it, and the door should open.
If the door lock functions properly, it should contain a tiny sensor that will detect that the key is close by and send an alert to the vehicle to unlock or lock. If this doesn't work, it could be due to a problem with the lock cylinder itself, or maybe the electronic component. Contacting a locksmith in the area will help you pinpoint the exact problem.
